My first class (Second period)

Hello my dear classmates!!

I started my first class of the second period. This time I’m teaching advanced I in the morning with teacher Walter Alvarenga.

I started the class by greeting the students, and then I had a little chat with them. This group is very special for me since they were the first group I taught when I started the teaching practicum.

The warm up activity that I developed was “the magic wand” I took a wand to the class and asked them to stand up and come to the front, the question was: If you had a magic wand, what would you like to change? The students gave different opinions and ideas about the questions; it was nice because that activity made them to speak.

In the presentation phase, I wrote the word “challenge” on the board and I asked the Ss to give their opinion about that word (brainstorm).  After that they used their books and read an article in page 40.
In the grammar phase I explained a little about the “future progressive and the future perfect”. But I did not have time to develop the exercises; I just provided them some examples.

I enjoyed the class but the time is my problem, at the end I received the feedbacks and teacher told me that I need to know how to manage the time. I liked the feedbacks because in that way I can improve my class for next time!

  1. Hey dear Maggie, I really enjoy reading your class development...you know the fact of using a wand was really creative and nice!!! I can imagine the Ss trying to find out what was the wand for???? and you did a great job making them figure out the purpose for it!!!! also the brainstorming part was really nice...and don´t worry about the time...I´m sure you will learn how to handle it!!! just try to follow the ecrif model for you to have a nice control of time!!!! I have to congratulate you my friend I can see that you are improving your skills!!!! ;)

  2. What is up Maggie!! I taught the same topic but I did it in a pretty different way. I see how different our styles are. I think that you should take a watch with you. You'd better Assigned time for each class and activity beacuse if it is true that you don't develope the activities within a certain time, the fact that you assigned time previouosly helps you a lot. I hope that you manage better that for the next time. Keep improving Maggie.

  3. Hi dear Maggie,You are taking advantage of the rapport with your students.Having them pass to the front means you are taking into account kinesthetic learners and the best of all is that you kept them engaged in speaking.I like the brainstorming activity since you receive different points of view and let the Ss express their thoughts.
As to the time remember that we only have fifty minutes and some activities take long.
