THE LAST CLASS

Hello my dear classmates and colleagues!

I feel happy because I finished my practices! And I know that all of you feel the same.

My last class was more about practice; the Ss had been studying about the simple present prefect vs. Present perfect progressive.
The warm up activity was “can’t say yes and no” I gave the Ss a piece of paper and asked them to draw a heart, then they had to come to the front and look for a person to ask for a question, but they did not have to answer neither “no” nor “yes” if someone answered with those words, they losT their heart.

After that I played a song called “I still haven’t found what I’m looking for” from U2. I asked the Ss to underline the present perfect in the song then I asked them to make sentences using a part of the lyric of the song.

Then, they have some practices about the topics. And that was my last class, I said bye to them I told them that that had been my last class.

I enjoyed teaching, I knew different groups, it was a nice experience!!

SECOND CLASS OF THE LAST PERIOD

Hello!! My second class with intermediate I was about verbs patterns

The warm up activity that I developed was clock ‘buddies this is another speaking activity where they had to talk about their English class, their previous topic, what they needed to improve in their English classes, etc. Something that I noticed is that the students did not get directions, so the teacher told me that I need to be more concise and clear when giving directions because some Ss got lost and did not understand what they really need to do.

In the presentation phase they used the books for a reading comprehension about smile, them they answer some questions.
The topic was verbs patterns, so it was like a review that is why I did not take too much time explaining the topic, after that they have some practices and I could see that most of them had forgotten some things about the topic.

My problem now was how to monitor Ss. I insist, the group is very large, and is difficult for me to catch their attention.
I know now that I have to work in this point. Despite of those situations I enjoyed the class, I like teaching because I know that I’m improving and learning at the same time.

 Thanks for your comments!!

FIRST CLASS OF THE THIRD PERIOD!

Hello everybody!!

My first class of the third period was in intermediate I with teacher Hercilia. This is a peculiar group since there are many students, like 25. I started the class with a warm up activity basically in that activity; the students practiced more speaking which is the most difficult skill for them.
The topic was the use of modals, I used a PDP in which the students watched a nice video about the planet, I started by asking them questions about our environment, after that I divided the class into two groups and I gave them two piece of bond paper and I asked one group to draw how they saw our planet in this time, while the other group had to draw how they would like to see our planet in the future, at the end  each group explained their charts.

After the Pre activity they watched the video about the planet, then they discussed some questions related to the topic.
This activity helped them to feel more motivated, I could see how the Ss  paid attention to the video.

Something that I do not like from the group is that some of them do not like to participate at all first, because the group is large and second because most of them are shy.

It is difficult for me to monitor the complete group, I think that I need to improve in that part, and the teacher told me the same in the feedback.

I appreciate her comments because it help me to know what I really need to improve in my last class.
Blessings!!

Monday, September 23, 2013

Hello today was my second class with advanced I. I felt a little bit nervous, because the teacher pays attention to any detail in the class. Let me tell you that it was difficult for me to think in a warm up activity for the students because the teacher told me: “you should do this, or you should do that” and I couldn’t think and find the warm up that he want me to perform, so at the end I performed the “hot potato”.  And you already know what this game consists of.

In the presentation, the Ss work in their books, and then they saw a nice video that was named “never give up” I did a PDP and they participated a lot, I liked the way they gave their ideas about the video and their personal experience. But before that, I explained some minutes about grammar, since they were studying Phrasal verbs, a student asked me about Transitive and Intransitive phrasal verbs, so I explained to them. I liked this, because it made me go back and study more about this topic, so I learned as well.
I liked my class and felt comfortable but the teacher told me that I did not look sure, and that I explained to much grammar. I felt sad because I liked my class, I know that in some moments I made some mistakes and I’m conscious about that. Next time hopefully I can teach better as he wishes!

Thanks for your comments! God bless you!!!!

My first class (Second period)

Hello my dear classmates!!

I started my first class of the second period. This time I’m teaching advanced I in the morning with teacher Walter Alvarenga.

I started the class by greeting the students, and then I had a little chat with them. This group is very special for me since they were the first group I taught when I started the teaching practicum.

The warm up activity that I developed was “the magic wand” I took a wand to the class and asked them to stand up and come to the front, the question was: If you had a magic wand, what would you like to change? The students gave different opinions and ideas about the questions; it was nice because that activity made them to speak.

In the presentation phase, I wrote the word “challenge” on the board and I asked the Ss to give their opinion about that word (brainstorm).  After that they used their books and read an article in page 40.
In the grammar phase I explained a little about the “future progressive and the future perfect”. But I did not have time to develop the exercises; I just provided them some examples.

I enjoyed the class but the time is my problem, at the end I received the feedbacks and teacher told me that I need to know how to manage the time. I liked the feedbacks because in that way I can improve my class for next time!

Hello!! This is my last blog entry for this period!  I’m glad that most of us have already finished with the teaching practicum of the first period!!
My last class was not excellent but good, I was assigned to teach a little of countable and uncountable nouns, after that I they have some practice about it.

Firs I started the class obviously with the warm up activity, I asked them to stand up and make two arrows, I gave a marker to the first Ss in the arrow and asked them to write a word in the white board, after that they have to pass the marker to the second Ss and start the next word with the last consonant or vowel of the previous word, and so on until they made stairs words.

After that, I practice repetition drills with the words that they had formed, in that moment I made a mistake in the pronunciation of the word “Easter” and something that I did not like was that the teacher stopped my class just to tell the Ss that my pronunciation in that word was not ok, so she corrected me in that way, I think it was not that appropriated. I consider that she should have done something different to correct my mistake.  I told the Ss that we, as practitioners are learning as well.

That day the students had an impromptu speech activity and for that reason the teacher did not let me finish my class, so I missed some activities with them.
At the end of the class I say goodbye to them! I gave them some tips about keep on studying hard, and the importance of our major.
And that was my last class I enjoyed them and I learned too!!

Bye!

Blessings forever!!!!

Second entry!

SECOND ENTRY

My second class with intermediate group was based on practices

First, as is common I started the class with the warm up activity, I know all of you know and like “Earthquake”. So, I like that kinesthetic activity because is funny and the Ss stress out. I can see how they laugh, and enjoy the game!

As I said before, the class was based on practice; the presentation phase was a reading comprehension, and the grammar part I spend a few minutes because it was a review. After that they had a listening comprehension about Kyoto I did those activities since they was going to have some evaluations.

I also handed out many pictures of beautiful places I put them around the classroom, then I asked the Ss to stand up and talk about the places they saw, which places they liked the most and why? If they know about the culture of the different places, etc.

At the end I did not have time for a dictation practice, so the teacher told me that my time had been over! At the end I took the feedback. I did not feel that comfortable because the teacher told me that I did not pronounce well some words, and I’m sure I did not mention some of the words that she told me, but I did not want to complain about it!

So, basically it was my second class!

Blessings!!
